|Two thousand years ago the Roman Army built a large camp at Charterhouse. Set on the top of the magnificent Mendips in this strategically important landscape, and less than a kilometre away from the ancient Roman encampment, Somerset Army Cadet Force have their Cadet Centre. Yoxter is ideally placed to host the type of youth activities which flourish in this area, such as hill walking, abseiling, and potholing, and the Bristol Channel resorts are near for adventurous waterborne activities. The delightful cities of Wells, Bath and Bristol are close by, for those who wish to indulge in more cultural pastimes. It is an ideal location as a base for access to Somerset, Wiltshire, South Wales or Gloucestershire. The cadet centre is able to provide overnight accommodation for 120 cadets and 18 adults. There is a joint dining room adjoining a well equipped kitchen, as well as an adult Mess/lounge. There is an eight lane 600 yard gallery range complex and a 358 ha dry training area, which can be booked separately. Parking is available for 16 cars.
