Description

Barnstaple is the jewel of North Devon, and said to be one of the oldest Boroughs in England, it is the commercial centre of North Devon. Barnstaple is situated in the valley of the river Taw, and is surrounded by stunning countryside. The beaches of Saunton, Croyde, Putsborough, Woolacombe and Westward Ho! are within easy reach, as are the wide-open spaces of Exmoor, which makes it a delight for the tourist and an ideal place to take advantage of adventure training opportunities.

The original building dates from 1900, but the administrative block was constructed in 1957. Fortescue Lines is named after Earl Clinton of Castlehill, and it is currently home to D Squadron, Royal Wessex Yeomanry as well as detachments of the Army Cadet Force and Air Training Corps. It is a two minute walk to the heart of the Barnstaple, with easy access to local amenities, restaurants and shops.

This is an ideal location to host conferences, exhibitions, meetings, lectures and tutorials. It can cater for functions both large and small, and a variety of formal and informal events. This venue benefits from on-site, secure parking for up to 10 cars. In 1989, the A361 North Devon Link Road was constructed, linking Barnstaple with the M5 motorway, approximately 40 miles (65 km) to the east. Barnstaple railway station is near the end of the Long Bridge but on the opposite bank of the River Taw to the town centre.

The main bus station is located on the junction with Summerland Street and Silver Street. National Express also run services from here. The nearest airport is Exeter.
